(Chonti-amentiu) Egyptian god of the dead.
His name means ‘he who is in the uttermost west’: it is in the west that the sun goes down, and there too is the kingdom of the dead. The god is represented as a crouching dog or jackal. In the Pyramid texts we find a king wishing to be changed into Chontamenti so that he may be able to rule over the dead.
