Dictionary of Biological Psychology

atomic weight

Literally this is the weight of an ATOM.

It is more or less equivalent to the combined weight of the protons and neutrons in an atom (that is, the atomic NUCLEUS) since electrons have next to no mass. The atomic weight alone is rarely of interest to biological psychologists, except in so far as the net weight of all the atoms in a MOLECULE will determine its MOLECULAR WEIGHT.
