An inflammation or other structural change in a joint. There are two principal types of arthritis, being osteoarthritis, which is associated with mechanical failure, usually of the cartilage within the joint, and rheumatoid arthritis, which is associated with an inflammation of the linings or covering sheaths of tissues associated with a joint.
