An object which has magical protective qualities. Charms of magic triangles, stars of *David, hands or *kabbalistic letters were worn in the Middle Ages to ward off evil spirits. The philosopher *Maimonides wrote of the folly of believing in amulets, but the practice was accepted by many early authorities (See also *MAGIC).
