One of a group of fibrous silicates known generically as ASBESTOS. It belongs to the amphibole group that, when magnified, can be seen to have short, needle-like fibres exhibiting a columnar shape.
Amosite is known more commonly as ‘brown’ asbestos, the name deriving from its colour when seen under the microscope.
Asbestos from the amphibole group is usually incorporated into materials that benefit from their fire, heat or acid resistance capabilities such as fire cements and in some insulation materials.
