Dictionary of Environmental Health

Alzheimer’s disease

A degenerative, non-infectious and progressive disorder of the cerebral cortex of the human brain characterised by premature senile dementia becoming manifest in middle or old age.

The cause is unknown and various theories have been proposed, including the notion that it is linked to aluminium deposition in the brain cells, which is in turn linked to high intake of dietary aluminium as a result of using aluminium kettles and cooking utensils – this theory remains unsubstantiated.
