Summary

Chapter 16 opens with a description of how Grace’s maternal grandmother came to buy the family’s summer house on a lake in Connecticut. It was to this house that Grace went when she took Henry and fled New York as Sylvia had advised her. The news vans were already parked in front of the house so the doorman helped her to slip out with her things through the basement. Soon Grace had rented a car and was headed away from New York with Henry. All that Grace could think about was how much she hated Jonathan for what he had done to them. At the house, there was not even wood for the fireplace and the house was not winterized. Grace assured Henry she was going to take care of things, that they were going to be all right.
