Chapter 6 Summary

In August, it is terribly hot and humid, and Mother gets very sick. Finally, Kisa sneaks off to the convent to get her some medicine, and he hurries back with the news that the war is over! Although the Japanese Emperor has unconditionally surrendered, many Japanese in Korea do not want the Koreans to know about it, so that the Japanese can safely escape from Korea.
