Summary

In Pages 65 - 128, Casey struggles with her writing. At work, she tells her favorite coworker, Harry, about her dating troubles. She comes home to a message from Silas cancelling their date. He had to leave town; he does not explain why. Casey tells Muriel she is tired of unreliable men. Muriel likes Silas, and does not want Casey to give up. On the weekend, Casey brings Harry to dinner at Muriel's. They are all writers. Casey tells some of them her book is loosely based on her mother's early life in Cuba.

In August, Iris gets busy with wedding parties. Marriage depresses Casey. When her childhood friend asks her to be her maid of honor, Casey says she cannot afford it. The friend is offended. Casey does not think she understands what it means to be financially unstable.
