Summary

Chapter 1, Lillian – This chapter occurs in the present. Lillian Linden tries to remind herself that sometimes people have to lie to protect the ones they love. She finds it easy to lie. Lillian is married to Josh, and has two sons with him. Lillian’s house and appearance are transformed for the television crew. Lillian no longer looks like she did from the family photos of three or four years ago. She seems faded. She now knows that life sometimes makes different choices than people do. Genevieve Randall from Headline News then appears. Genevieve explains she’ll be sticking to the questions given to Lillian ahead of time so Lillian’s responses can be detailed and accurate. A few final checks are performed, assistants Ralph and Steve go over some notes, and the interview gets underway.
