Summary

Part 5: The Stranded, 69 – 75

In Chapter 69, Juliette continues to use the air hose to guide herself back to the stairway. She survives the trip back up the stairwell by inhaling the air trapped on the bottoms of the stair treads. She finally reaches the top of the water level. Solo is lying with blood on his head. She doesn’t realize at first how badly he is hurt. He tells her only that his name is not Solo but Jimmy, and that he doesn’t believe that he was ever alone in the silo.

In Chapter 70 as Lukas makes tea, he wonders aloud to Bernard how people could willingly and intentionally kill other people. Bernard explains that it is for this reason that so much information has to be hidden from the people, so that they don’t revolt. Bernard seems angry when...
