Part 5: The Stranded, 53 – 60

In Chapter 53, Marck is stunned by the violence and deafened by the bombs as he heads with the others back to the lower floors. He searches for his wife, needing to know she is safe as the fighting continues.

In Chapter 54, Marck finds Shirly and tells her what has happened upstairs. Those in Supply appear to be forcing those from Mechanical back down the stairs. When they finally reach their floor, there is a jam of people trying to get in. Those left behind in Mechanical have soldered steel plates across the doorway, leaving only a small opening for people to squeeze through. Marck runs up the stairs, shooting at the security people who are shooting downward at them. He creates enough distraction so that those waiting — including his wife — are able to get safely inside.
