Summary

The spotlight Rose switched on reveals the Panorama, a scale replica of New York City. Rose explains after the World’s Fair, it was decided the Panorama would not be dismantled. Rose was hired to work on the model full time to update it as the city changed and new buildings were erected. Rose then guides Ben down a hidden set of stairs and through a door, and they emerge on the Atlantic Ocean within the model. Rose pulls out her notebook and continues to write her story for Ben. Rose tells Ben that Daniel was the youngest person ever to be named lead designer for a new diorama. He traveled to Minnesota and would send letters back to Rose about a wonderful woman he met: Ben’s mother, Elaine. He had fallen in love but Elaine had no desire to...
