Chapter 18 Summary

The morning after the balloon leaves, the friends meet in the throne room. Every one but Dorothy is quite content. They ask Dorothy if she cannot be content to live with them in the Emerald City forever. She says she wants to go home.

Her friends think hard about a way to make Dorothy's wish come true. First, they summon the winged monkeys and ask them to carry Dorothy across the desert but the winged monkeys cannot travel to a foreign land. The Scarecrow then asks the advice of the soldier who guards the throne room. The soldier suggests that they travel south to see Glinda, the second good witch who lives in the Land of Oz. The friends decide this is good advice and vow to travel with Dorothy. The make plans to leave the next morning.
