Chapter 17 Summary

It will take more than imagination to get Dorothy home to Kansas. After thinking about it for several days, the Wizard proposes that he a Dorothy build a balloon and float across the desert together. He is tired of being a humbug and wants to go to Kansas and join the circus.

Dorothy spends three days sewing green silk together to make the balloon. When it is finished, the Wizard attaches a large basket to the balloon and has the Tin Woodman chop a huge pile of wood. The fire fills the balloon with hot air.

Before the Wizard leaves Oz, he tells the people he is going to visit a brother Wizard who lives in the clouds. He also puts the Scarecrow in charge of the Emerald City......
