Chapter 14 Summary

The four travelers (five if you count Toto) find themselves lost in the yellow land of the Winkies. They flew over the land in the arms of the winged monkeys to get to the Witch's palace in the first place and they have no idea how to get back to the Emerald City. They begin to lose heart as day after day they walk toward the East but do not see any sign of getting closer to their goal.

Finally, Dorothy remembers the small whistle that the Queen of the Mice had given her. Dorothy blows the whistle and the Queen and several field mice arrive. Dorothy explains that they have lost their way back to the Emerald City. The Queen asks Dorothy why she does not use the Golden Cap and have the Winged Monkeys carry the travelers back to the Wizard.
