Chapter 12 Summary

The travelers leave the Emerald City to find the Witch of the West. The Witch can watch them through her magic eye. She sends 40 wolves to attack them but the Tin Woodman picks the wolves off one by one with his axe. Next, the witch sends 40 crows to peck out the eyes of the travelers. This time, the Scarecrow is the hero. He methodically catches and kills the birds by twisting their necks.

The Witch next sends a swarm of bees to sting Dorothy and her friends to death. The Scarecrow empties his stuffing to hide Dorothy, Toto and the Lion. When the bees arrive, they die trying to sting the Tin Woodman.

Finally, the Witch resorts to a magic Golden Cap. The owner of the cap is allowed to call on a.....
