Chapter 9 Summary

As the Scarecrow and Tin Woodman wait for Dorothy and Toto to wake up, they see a wildcat chasing a mouse. The Tim Woodman cannot bear the thought of the mouse being harmed so he kills the wildcat with his axe. The mouse is no ordinary creature. She is Queen of the Mice. She and all the mice are so grateful that the Tin Woodman has saved her that they vow to serve him.

Though the Tin Woodman can think of nothing for the mice to do, the Scarecrow has a plan. He instructs the Tin Woodman to build a platform with wheels and he tells the Queen to gather all the mice and have each one bring a piece of string. The Scarecrow is going to use the mice to rescue the Lion.....
