Chapter 5 Summary

In this chapter Dorothy, the Scarecrow and Toto encounter the Tin Woodman. As they are journeying through the forest, they hear a groan. The groan leads them to a woodchopper made entirely of tin. He has rusted in place with his axe raised above his head. Dorothy retrieves his oilcan and oils his rusted joints.

When the Tin Woodman hears that the trio is going to the Emerald City to see the Wizard, he asks if he can join the group. He would like to ask the Wizard for a heart. The group gladly welcomes the Woodman. As they walk through the forest, he tells them his story.
