Chapter 3 Summary

Chapter 3 begins with Dorothy making all of the necessary preparations for her journey. She eats, washes and changes into a clean dress. She puts on the silver shoes. She packs a basket with food, locks up her house and sets out toward the City of Emeralds. She spends the first night in the home of a wealthy Munchkin.

On the second day of her journey, Dorothy encounters the Scarecrow who will become her traveling companion. When she stops to rest, she sees the Scarecrow in a field and believes he winks at her. She goes closer to investigate and he begins to talk with her. Dorothy helps the Scarecrow get down off his pole.
