Roland and his ka-tet ride out to the east road with a hundred children and their guards as well as the Sisters of Oriza. Roland rides with Slightman, who confesses to Roland his betrayal of the Calla and asks if Roland plans to kill him. Roland admits that he thought about it, but that he does not see the need to do that just yet.
