Part 2, Susan: Chapter 1, Summary

Rhea of the Coos, a witch, has received a box from three men called The Big Coffin Hunters that she is meant to keep safe. She takes the box outside her shack to open it, taking out a glowing pink orb in which she sees Roland Deschain and his friends approaching the Mejis. She hears a girl coming up the hill, singing, and runs to hide the orb. (Chapter 2, "Proving Honesty") She shoves it under the bed, but the box clicks open a little and reveals a pink light that can be seen from the next room. Susan Delgado approaches the hut, singing to herself, and sees the witch run inside the cottage but pretends she hasn't noticed and keeps singing.
