John Kelly

John Kelly works for an oil company at the opening of the book and is involved in demolition. He is originally from Indianapolis and served in the Navy in Vietnam. He was a trained diver and had worked in the Mekong Delta and had been recommended to the police to help them out in cases. He meets Pam Madden when she is hitchhiking and takes her to his island. On the way they meet Sam and Sarah Rosen, whose yacht has mechanical trouble. They help Pam withdraw from drugs. Kelly sets up a meeting between Pam and a friend of his on the police force. On the way to the meeting, Kelly is shot by the drug people when he takes Pam to ride around the neighborhood where she worked. He is taken to Johns Hopkins where the Emergency Room staff summons San Rosen. ...
