Summary

This section begins Part Two of the work, "The Savory." Again Acevedo begins this part with a recipe, "No Use Crying Over Spilled Strawberry Milk" (141). The first chapter "Skipping" describes Emoni's absence from Culinary Arts class given her confrontation with Chef Ayden. She avoids Malachi, who is concerned over her absence from class. To add to Emoni's angst, Pretty Leslie and Malachi show up at the Burger Joint together, apparently on a date. Emoni also avoids telling Angelica and 'Buela that she has not been attending class. Rather than address her conundrum over class, Emoni throws herself into creating a spectacular dinner for Angelica and her girlfriend Laura. In turn, Angelica promises to make Babygirl the best Halloween costume; the two decide Emma should be a chef. Malachi calls Emoni and asks her if they could see one another. Emoni gives him attitude...
