Summary

In pages 163 - 193, Ree eased off the pills so she and Uncle Teardrop could go out. On the drive, still feeling hazy, Ree struggled to follow Teardrop's talking. He gave her whiskey to help her feel better. At a gas station, several women approached the car, commenting on Ree's haggard appearance. Ree tried listening to Teardrop's conversation with some men. They said she did not look that bad; Teardrop told them off. As they approached Buster Leroy's, Ree vomited out the window. Suddenly, Teardrop pulled over at a cemetery. Ree felt miserable, but Teardrop was determined to show her the Dolly family grave. Ree realized he meant Jessup was definitely dead.
