Point of View

The novel is told in the third person point of view and follows three main characters; Vasya, Sasha, and Konstantin. Vasya is the most common focus, as entire sections and chapters are spent exclusively with her. This is because this novel is Vasya’s story. She acts as a literal bridge between the worlds, interacting with all types of characters on each side. This makes her the most flexible point of view to follow, for she can use the road through Midnight to appear wherever she needs to and move the plot forward on her own. She also has the most unbiased viewpoint of all the characters, as she sees both species - human and chyerti - as flawed, but redeemable, making her a reliable source for the reader to follow.
