Iowa City is the place where Irene and Russ lived. They owned a Victorian house that Irene had renovated painstakingly. Irene’s job was centered in Iowa City but Russ traveled often.

La Tapa

La Tapa is the restaurant where Ayers worked with Rosie. Baker goes to eat at this restaurant one night hoping to run into Ayers. He and Cash return the next night where they have an argument over which one of them should date Ayers.

Waters North of Virgin Gorda

The helicopter in which Rosie and Russ were riding went down in the waters north of Virgin Gorda during a thunderstorm. Although it had originally been believed that the helicopter crashed because it was struck by lightning, it is indicated at the end of the novel that foul play was involved.
