Chapter XI Summary

The Rat pulls the exhausted Toad safely out of the river and into Rat's home. Toad immediately begins boasting about his noble adventures, but the Rat cuts him off sternly, advising him to go upstairs to the guest room and not come down until he looks like a gentleman again. Toad is ready to argue with the Rat until he catches sight of himself in the mirror, still dressed like a washerwoman and looking scruffier than ever before. After Toad is freshened up, dressed well, and feeling himself again, Rat has lunch prepared for his friend. Over lunch, Toad gives Rat all the details of his adventures. Rat is not impressed that his rich friend has become a thief and rebukes Toad for hurting all their reputations. When the Rat's done talking, Toad.....
