Chapter VI Summary

The warmth of summer has returned at last as this chapter opens. Mole and Rat are up early, prepping the boat for the season and eagerly discussing their plans over breakfast, when a knock comes at the door. The animals are irritated by the interruption, until they learn that it's Badger at the door. What an honor for them to have the anti-social Badger pay them a call. Badger, with great solemnity, announces that the hour has come: it's time to take Toad in hand, as they'd all promised to do that long ago winter day in Badger's home.

There's not a moment to lose, as Badger has it on good authority that Toad has bought yet another motorcar. The friends abandon their boating plans in favor of their duty to their friend, and.....
