Chapters 11 and 12 Summary

In Chapter Eleven, Cezar searches the girls' room unexpectedly. They suffer through the humiliation of having him rummage through their things. That night, Jena tells Gogu they have to do something and he suggests they ask Draguta. It's obvious Gogu is petrified at the prospect but he insists he'll go with Jena. They leave early the next morning but Florica sees them. Jena says she has somewhere to go and asks that Florica not tell on her. The woman agrees after Jena promises she'll be safe.

Jena arrives at a place she believes Draguta might be and waits. When she arrives, Draguta is a small woman riding a fox. She tells Jena she will help with her problem if Jena gives up something she cherishes. Jena offers several material possessions but the witch says she wants Gogu. Jena refuses. The witch...
