Chapter 29 Summary
Maya, Vivian and Bailey live with Mr. Clidell in his large home. Daddy Clidell and Vivian have boarders living in the house. One couple are college graduates and Maya has adult conversations with them. Daddy Clidell is honest and owns apartment buildings and pool halls. He teaches Maya to play black jack and poker. People comment that Maya looks like her father, Daddy Clidell. He teaches her how to spot a con man. He and his friends show her scams so she won't end up a mark for a con man. They tell her the story of how they once conned a white con man out of $40,000 after he had conned several black friends of theirs.
