Chapter 13 Summary

At the hospital, Bailey asks Maya who did this to her. She tells him of the threat made on his life. She believes Bailey when he says he won't let anyone kill him, and tells Bailey about Mr. Freedman. Bailey cries, then goes to Grandma Baxter and identifies Maya's attacker. Mr. Freedman is arrested and Maya is questioned in court. She covers up the other two times Freedman molested her out of fear. He is sentenced to one year and one day, but is somehow released from jail later that day. Bailey and Maya are playing a game when the police arrive to notify their grandmother that Freedman's body had been found. Apparently, he had been kicked to death. Maya blames herself because she had lied about the other times he had touched.....
