Part 3, England 1820: Chapters 28-29 Summary

In chapter 28, Whitney begins going out as often as possible. At times, Whitney runs into Clayton who ignores her as though there was never anything between them. Each time this happens, Whitney's heart breaks. Nicolas comes to town and spends every night escorting Whitney to various parties. Finally Nicolas asks Whitney to marry him, but she turns him down, effectively ending their friendship. Whitney tells Emily everything and Emily convinces Whitney that she misunderstood Clayton's intentions. Emily convinces Whitney that she needs to explain herself to Clayton and to do it quickly because it is rumored that Clayton is about to marry Vanessa Standfield.
