Soul Mates

The author uses this theme to demonstrate that, though Eleanor was married to Franklin, it is most likely that Lorena Hickok was the love of her life. Though Eleanor and Hick could never be together in a traditional relationship because of the conservative values of the time period, they loved and supported each other unconditionally over the years and valued each other as partners. Hick says about their relationship, “the real task for the two of us was to learn how to love and let go and yet keep loving” (88).
