Chapter 5 Summary

On Tuesday, when Tse-Tse lets Neeve into Ethel's apartment, they are surprised to find a man there. Tse-Tse recognizes the man as Douglas Brown, Ethel's nephew. Douglas says that he was supposed to meet Ethel there Friday but she never showed up. He tells Neeve he hasn't answered the phone because his aunt instructed him not to. He tells her that he must have gone out for food when Neeve came by on Friday. Tse-Tse asks Neeve if she thinks something might have happened to Ethel. Ethel's nephew does not seem to be concerned that his aunt is missing and tells Neeve she has pulled disappearing acts in the past. As Neeve hangs up Ethel's new clothes, she takes inventory of the contents of the closet. Some of Ethel's luggage is gone as well as some of her clothing.
