Points of View
The story is from the omniscient third person point of view. While Forney does not say anything, his thoughts reveal his feelings for Novalee. While Novalee thinks Willy Jack is going to California for a job, his thoughts reveal the scam he plans to pull. While Novalee is thinking something else, she lies to Forney. The narrator shows Claire and Benny's thoughts. The narrator also shows a real person, Sam Walton. Novalee's point of view changes from an ignorant teenager to a well-read adult. Moses and Forney make her think deeply. Because of them, she is more self-aware and has knowledge about subjects such as photography and books. A pregnancy scare makes her realize how much books make her understand.
Photography makes her realize she has her own unique perspective. Novalee has flashbacks to her childhood and other characters' words, which helps her grow. Willy Jack has a selfish perspective,...
