Chapter 27 Summary
Novalee knows Forney is worried about her driving in the sleet from Wal-Mart to home. She does not know why she drives the long commute to Poteau. She feels connected to Wal-Mart because she lived and gave birth there. Mrs. Ortiz keeps Americus during the day, and Forney insists on looking after her at night. Novalee likes seeing him when she walks into her house. He got her frames for the Polaroid's that Novalee took after Willy Jack left her at Wal-Mart. The photos were damaged in the tornado, but she just sees the good in Sister, Moses, and Benny. The pictures are the first things she put in the house. She has been in the house for more than six months. It is a home without wheels. She designed the house, which is four rooms, a bath, and a deck that encloses the buckeye tree.
