Chapter 9 Summary
At the hospital, reporters have to be kept away, and Novalee is moved to a private room with a "No Visitors" sign. A nurse says they must have somebody famous. Novalee says she does not understand it. Forney comes in from a lot of commotion in the hall. The nurse tells him to leave. Novalee says he is her friend. Novalee asks why everyone is there. Forney says it is madness with radio and television. Novalee asks how they found out about it. Forney says he is to blame because he set off the alarm breaking the window, and an ambulance came. Novalee says he was helping her. She says she had a baby in an unclean place so she is on antibiotics. She says the baby is in an incubator until her temperature is normal.
