Chapter 2 Summary
Everything is a blur to Novalee. She cannot remember the man finding her camera in the handicapped space, the clerk putting money in her hand, or the manager taking her to a bench. She does recall hearing talk about calling an ambulance and her saying she is okay and that her boyfriend will return. As time passes, store workers ignore the pregnant girl on the bench under a red, white, and blue banner that says "Made in America." When it is almost three, a woman calls her Ruth Ann Mott and says she has not seen her since her mother died. Novalee says she is not Ruth Ann. The woman says she must remember her and says she is Sister Husband or Thelma. Novalee tries to explain she is not Ruth, but Sister interrupts her.
