Summary

In Chapter 31, Shaw Daniels visits Jo, but primarily to make arrangements to continue the bird study. Jo learns that Ursa’s condition is improving, and also that Lynne Kinney has passed away. Tabby reports that she has attempted to visit Ursa, but that her hospital door is guarded by police. In Chapter 32, Jo is now healthy enough to be released from the hospital, but she stages a sit-in in front of Ursa’s room, demanding to visit Ursa. Seeing Jo’s tenacity, a social worker named Lenora Rhodes tells Jo that Ursa was raised in Paducah, Kentucky by neglectful parents named Dylan and Portia. Dylan had passed away due to drowning when Ursa was five, and Portia was murdered at the beginning of that summer.

In Chapter 33, Lenora hopes that Ursa will reveal more about the murder if Jo is in the room...
