Chapter Five Summary

Mary and Heidi take the cable car up to Schloss Adler accompanied by Captain von Brauchitsch. Von Brauchitsch leads them to a large room and introduces Mary to Anne-Marie who is in charge of the castle's female staff and personal secretary to Colonel Kramer, head of the German Secret Service in the area. Anne-Marie takes Mary into a room, questions her and strip-searches her, and when they return it is obvious that Mary has been crying. Anne-Marie tells Heidi to take Mary to the room that she uses when she serves at the castle, and as they are leaving Colonel Kramer himself enters the room.
