Beatriz Perez

The central character of the When We Left Cuba, Beatriz Perez serves as the story’s narrator. Originally from Cuba, Beatriz and her family were forced to relocate to Palm Beach, Florida after Fidel Castro took power. When the reader is first introduced to Beatriz at the beginning of the novel, she is receiving her fifth marriage proposal of her lifetime, setting the stage for an important detail of Beatriz’s characterization: she is extremely wanted.
