Summary

Beatriz and Nick return to Palm Beach as a couple for the first time. It is the season for homecomings, apparently, as Eduardo, too, arrives home from the Cuban prison camp he was being held in for the last eighteen months. He looks nearly the same, a slight limp in his gate the only sign of the horrors he endured in Fidel’s hellhole. Beatriz tells him that she has with Nick Preston now, and she does not have a future with Eduardo. He accepts this, knowing that if the universe had better timing then perhaps they could be together. There’s no time to grieve for Eduardo, because soon the entire country is caught up in grieving for President Kennedy after his assassination in Dallas. The Perez family circles around themselves as they process the senseless violence that has taken their president...
