Chapters 5 and 6 Summary

In Chapter 5, Gilbert heads to the local gas station to put some gas in his empty tank. Gilbert says he goes to this station because the bell that rings when you drive over it is broken and the owner refuses to fix it because he too believes Endora is a lost cause. Gilbert drives to the cemetery to visit his father's grave to kill some time before his insurance appointment. Gilbert falls asleep and wakes to two men driving a truck with a hydraulic shovel who are about to dig a grave. Gilbert has overslept; it is now four and he missed his insurance appointment.
