Summary

Chapter 15 is titled “Ere Time Transfigured Me.” The story line reverts to Anne's perspective. The groom's toast had triggered a memory of “an attack on a wedding party” (211) at the Gresham Hotel. The attack was one of many against Michael, but the details stayed with Anne because so many people were put in danger. She wonders again whether she has changed history or was always part of it, and she knows she cannot explain this. Michael threatened Anne while they were checking the doors, saying he would kill her if necessary. Anne and Thomas remained near the hotel while Thomas helped treat injuries. Thomas makes it clear he does not trust her, citing her knowledge of the fire and of Liam's accusation.

Michael and his associate, Joe O'Reilly, are waiting when they reach Thomas's house. Michael questions Anne and she cites the story...
