Summary

Chapter 3 is titled “The Stolen Child.” Anne finds the cemetery and locates the stone for Eoin's parents. Anne locates the graves of her ancestors. One stone is inscribed with “Declan and Anne” (Anne Finnegan Gallagher), with the death date 1916 for both. Anne believes this is proof that they died together. She remains for awhile, talking about herself and Eoin. She finds a stone with the last name “Smith” and wonders if this is where Thomas Smith is buried.

Eoin had given Anne an envelope of some items. One of Thomas's journals is inside, as is a ring. Anne puts on the ring. She closely examines the photos and discovers that one features Michael Collins, an important figure in the fight that led to the Treaty of England. He is standing with Thomas and Anne.
