Why is mythology such an important 'genre' of writing, especially for black authors?

Mythology is important in that it constitutes aspirational thinking and expression for black communities, not only for the future but for the past as well. it helps communities described therein come to terms with past events, traumas, and understandings of the self in order to craft ideas for what that community should be or look like. Mythology, besides being put in writing, can also be an accessible form of story-telling in that it can be passed on orally.
