Summary

Chapter 61

Connell misses the last train out of Grand Center. He angrily kicks a recycling bin. The next train wouldn’t come until 5:30. He decides not to call his mother even though she’d worry. She wishes he’d be around more but has gotten used to his late hours. To kill time, he walks over to Smalls, a jazz club that allowed minor in but didn’t serve them alcoholic beverages. He stays all night. At five in the morning, a free breakfast buffet is served which he dug into. When Connell walks in at seven in the morning, he finds Eileen asleep at the kitchen. She had made Christmas cookies which he was supposed to help her with. He wakes her and tells her to go upstairs to bed. She promises to never worry about him again. He is free, she...
