Electric Fences

Electric fences surround the city and farmland of Wayward Pines, Idaho. They are electrified chain-link fences designed to keep the abbies out, and the people of Wayward Pines in. The fences are punctuated by a gate which allows woodcutting expeditions out into the surrounding forests. At the end of the novel, when Ethan and the townspeople turn against Pilcher, Pilcher shuts down the electric grid, and opens the gates so the people can leave – or the abbies can get in.

Sniper Rifles

Sniper rifles are wielded and utilized by the guards in Wayward Pines, Ethan, and members of Pilcher’s crew to kill abbies and enforce order. A sniper rifle is also carried by Adam Tobias Hassler has he scouts out the wilderness and heads to the former city of Seattle and returns to Wayward Pines.
