Simon's Wings and Tail

Simon's wings and tail are symbols of how he sees himself now after having lost his magic and having completed a quest to eliminate a dangerous being in his world. His friend Penny has the ability to conceal his wings, but Simon chooses to simply cover them with a coat. The coat makes it difficult for him to move around among people. As the novel comes to an end, Simon notes that a magickal doctor can remove the wings and the tail, which will allow him to go forward with his life. However, he has not yet had them removed.
